Opinion

This film highlights the harsh realities of how marginalised groups are used for public
relations. The story centers on Milly, who is asked to give a last minute TV interview for
her movement. While her boyfriend, Sam, is excited for her, he shows her a newly
published article revealing that the movement’s leader has made an Anti-Semitic
comment about the Holocaust.

Milly realises that she was not chosen to speak on behalf of the movement for her ideas,
instead she understands that her identity as a Jewish woman is being used as a
convenient solution to a public relations disaster. Placing her on camera to defend the
movement is a textbook case of tokenism, designed to make the organisation look
innocent and while avoiding any real accountability. – – – – – by Chaniya Essome
