As a former University of Lincoln student myself, I can related to the inspiring arts forms and learning curves your young live throws at you. As well as those pesky swans. You literally had to be there. It was a long while since I stepped foot on campus, many moons ago. But what joy it was to collide with a bunch of current students as part of our upcoming Femme Filmmakers Festival.

A celebration of women behind the film camera takes you on many paths. And with this year’s online event heavy on student films (partly jolted by Lara Haciosmanoglu and her short Hands from last year), we scouted the current student landscape for the next crop of super creative women. Part of that immense journey across the UK put me in front of three, recent prize winning Film Production students with an abundance of passion and gusto to make them perfect icons for the Femme Filmmakers Festival.

Step forward Rejwan Gareb, Eloise Allatt, and Katherine Dowrick. Founders of Girls In Art, a student society putting the spotlight on the women and their incredible art. Be it a man’s world or a woman’s to take over, my liaison with these three terrific girls was as electrifying as any an experience I have had in what is now 10 years bringing this festival to the forefront.

Rejwan, Eloise, and Katherine were gracious enough – and armed with full-force enthusiasm – to allow me to sit them down and pick their brains. In this short documentary Those Girls In Art, the three female film fanatics talk about their developing love for film, their place in yet another male-dominated sector, and the journey to creating and growing their award-winning student society Girls In Art. And they do it with smiles on their faces and ambition in their blood.
